In the middle of the night…

Have you ever found yourself awake in the middle of the night, unable to fall back asleep?

At first, you are just kind of annoyed that you are awake, then you find yourself worrying about every single thing under the sun.

Worrying about–

If the HVAC will need to be replaced?
If we’re going to make it to the end of the month?

Will we need a new roof?

Saving for college…

At 3 a.m., fears–especially around money–can be a visceral experience that gets your cortisol pumping! As a financial coach, I know that you may not need to reach for melatonin, but maybe you need to plan ahead more to reduce your anxiety and concern with money.

If you think about it, nothing is worthy of that kind of stress and anxiety. We often let fears about money live rent-free in our minds and homes. Not only does financial stress have an impact on our health, it can also impact our marriages. Financial conflict is often cited as the reason for divorce!

The worst part about this is…it is mostly unnecessary.

There is a path to financial freedom, and the peace that comes with it.

So if you have found yourself feeling guilt, shame or stress about money, I would love for you to begin to “cover your bases” with these three financial tools.

Here are Three Ways you can Protect Your Peace:

  • What’s the Worst that Could Happen? (i.e. Getting Hit By a Bus!)

Let’s start with managing the worst case scenarios. For the financial security that life insurance can provide, few things can compete with its low cost and high pay off, if it is needed. There are several life “milestones” when most people purchase or modify their life insurance policy: marriage, birth of a child, substantial increase in salary or cost of living adjustment and retirement. Life insurance reduces the financial risk for the surviving spouse and the family. If you don’t currently have life insurance, it may be time to consider it.

  • Emergency Fund

Not every problem can be solved with money, but as they say, “Money can money problems!”

Imagine for a moment how much relief you would feel if a financial issue came up, and you had more than enough to deal with it. In fact–I LOVE when couples start to feel the power of the emergency fund!!

  • Financial Forecasting

Quite honestly–we are often not blind-sighted by large expenses. Typically, we know they are coming, whether we want to plan for them or not! Car repairs, braces for children, house repairs, private school tuition, a new car or a new roof are not exactly a surprise most times.

So if you are looking into the future, and you know there is a large expense coming over the next 5 years, then let’s start planning for it now in your monthly budget. Even if it is a small amount, you will feel the momentum of positive actions to reduce your financial risk and create more stability.

If money issues are costing you peace, please trust me that there is another way! You don’t have to live with stress, frustration and disappointment with your finances. If you commit to change, even small changes, you can reduce fears and anxieties around money. In fact, you could soon find yourself with a growing sense of financial confidence!
