I hope you enjoyed a wonderful holiday with your family, and that you are looking forward to an exciting year that is just around the corner!
For many of the clients I began working with in 2021, the holiday season was the first time that they had money set aside for the expenses before December. As one client said, “Before working with you, we didn’t think about Christmas expenses until Thanksgiving dinner!”
This was the first year that many clients could enjoy the season of the holidays, without the stress of wondering how they were going to pay for it. A victory!
The holidays are just one way that we can plan for things that matter to us, and back them financially throughout the year. That’s the core issue for many clients–when their spending matches their priorities, they feel more at peace. They aren’t checking their bank app to make a spending decision, because they already know where their money is going.
We like to plan for things that will come up, like holidays or car repairs, as well as things that you care about, whether that is travel, caring for elderly parents, or sending your kids to a private school. Planning for expenses will make or break your budget.
So if something like travel is important to your family, make sure to include it in your monthly budget, along with your other priorities and requirements. You would be shocked by the confidence you get with your money when you start setting some aside for things that matter to you.
People typically call these “sinking funds” but I call it “peace” with your money. It is the difference between stress and confidence with your bank account.
I am wishing you a wonderful New Year! Can’t wait to see what is in store for 2022.
