When I first met Kimberly, she had a lot on her mind.
She was concerned about her Job Security.
Concerned that her (adult) special needs child would need more help.
Most of all–she had retirement looming on the horizon, and she wasn’t sure if she was on the right path to retire comfortably.
Kimberly had dreams burning inside her for her life and to help provide for her family, and even give back to her community, but it seemed like at every turn, lack of money was holding her back.
She was interested in working with me, but there was just one catch.
Kimberly and her husband’s finances were separate, and she could not recruit her husband to participate in the coaching*.
Truth be told–part of the reason she wanted to work with me was to show her husband how much progress she could make with money.
First, we assessed her goals. As discussed, she wanted to build a clear path to retirement. This would mean that she needs to address her debt, prioritize her expenses and take a long-term approach to investing. Kimberly owed about $25,000, had $6,000 in savings and earned $3,800 per month.
Immediately we created a budget for her to follow that would allow her to prioritize her financial goals. She began tracking, cutting non-essential expenses and crushing her goals. She also decided to sell some stocks she had purchased for fun through the Robin Hood app. Instead, she used that to pay down debt and invest in her 401K.
Through her consistent hard work and discipline, in just four months she was able to reduce her debt by more than half, and cash-flow expensive dental work. She sent in this kind note when we concluded our coaching:
“Crystal, I just wanted to take an opportunity to tell you that within the few months that we worked together I can honestly say that I have never had so much clarity in the direction that I should go with balancing my finances. You have shown me the power of allocating every dollar and solidifying the plans that I have for my future. With your guidance, I paid off over $14,000 in debt and major expenses! I highly recommend your life-changing service. Thank you very much!”

*Many financial coaches will not work with a client if both partners are not on board. But I decided a long time ago that if people want help with their finances, and if I felt like I could truly help them, I would. Yes, it’s easier if everyone is on the same page, but I can still usually help women make progress if their husband is not involved in the finances or if their finances are separate.
